Roshanak
A small light in the dark.
This project is a tribute to the resilience of the Afghan people and the rich musical heritage of Afghanistan. Created by Ebrahim Mohammadi—santur teacher, writer, and composer—this platform is dedicated to those who seek to learn the santur and to those who wish to access traditional Afghan musical notations.
This site stands as both a resource and a bridge—preserving Afghan music through never-before-written musical notations, teaching the santur, and restoring its place in Afghan music while safeguarding the roots of Afghan songs.

With Ebrahim Mohammadi
Ganjeeneh (گنجینه), meaning “a small treasure” or “a collection of precious things,” is Ebrahim Mohammadi’s second book dedicated to preserving the rich and often undocumented tradition of Afghan music.
There are almost no music notation books available for Afghan traditional music—except for one: his first publication, Roshanak, which laid the groundwork for written preservation of this musical heritage. Ganjeeneh builds on that foundation, offering new transcriptions and insights into melodies that have lived for generations by ear and heart.
This book will be dedicated to one of Afghanistan’s greatest musicians: Saraban. Known for his deep, emotional voice and poetic interpretations, Saraban (1930–1983) was a master of classical Afghan ghazal. His work blended traditional Afghan melodies with poetic lyricism, and he is remembered not only for his artistry but for the dignity and depth he brought to Afghan music.
Through Ganjeeneh, Mohammadi honors his legacy and make this musical treasure accessible to future generations.
